Online Viola Tuner

Use this free online viola tuner to tune up your viola. This is for the standard CGDA viola tuning. Click on the note for the string you want to tune and then turn the tuning pegs on your viola and match it up with the note that is being played. Use your tuning pegs at the top of the viola to get close to the correct tone, and then use the tuning pegs on the bridge to do the fine tuning.

Note: Both the Viola and Cello have the same tunings, only the strings on the Viola are 1 octave higher. So you can use this online tuner to tune your cello also!

Viola Girl, lots of people aren't big handed enough to play a 15" instrument so they have smaller, but they are still tuned to the same notes. It makes very little difference to the overall sound. My own viola is the same size as a violin, but its body is much deeper.

to connie, i know how you feel. i play the viola, cello, piano and flute. i come to school with a flute case and get "i didn't know you play clarinet!" and i'm like "it's a flute". i come to school with my viola and get "how come you never told me you play violin?" "it's a viola" and my cello - "is that a double bass?" "no it's a cello"

Hello! I'm a Viola and piano player and I lovvvvvvve music! I find it a bit anoying when people see me carrying my viola to school and say "Ooh!That looks like a nice violin, Connie!" and I have to explain for the three-million-and-somethingth time that it is actually a viola. I think that playing the humbley brilliant viola is a lot better than playing a flashy violin because it's better to be a big fish in a little pond.I'm trying to get myself to do more practice so that I can follow my dream. Anyway, a big thumbs-up to viola players everywhere and good luck to you all,Guys! ;D

hi :) [08/30/2010 04:08]

ok, firstly, whichever MORON thinks "orchestra nerds need to get a life" - get a life yourself!!!! i go to a selective school so in my life i've had a lot of "nerd", "smarty-pants", "nerdy birdy" and "idiotic nerd" (i dont get the last one either), but i can relate to them. i would read and know more than the others in my class (which wasn't very hard as they were all so dumb) but NORMAL people have respect for instrument players, so orchestra nerd is even more insulting, thank you very much!! anyway, i want to be a composer when i grow up (i play viola, violin, piano, flute and clarinet) and thats much better than what you'll probably end up doing. as for the viola/violin debate, i like them both equally :). p.s. if you ever want to write an amazing song using 2 instruments pick the viola and violin, and choose a minor key if you want to make the listener cry. they sound really good together!

i am lead violist in the school chamber orchestra, i play cello in the orchestra and i'm lead violinist in the school combined (with our brother school) symphonic orchestra. thats cool because i'm in year 7 and there are yr 12s. except they all hate me because they have a yr 7 leading them. it gets on their nerves :) i like annoying annoying boys. but only if they're annoying. but i like the viola SOOO much. it's so cool :P

Whoa whoa whoa everyone, We can all just settle on the five string Violin!

Tuning of C,G,D,A,E, capable of performing both Viola and Violin pieces with the added resonance of a fifth string.
So no more dispute right?

Oh yeah, also, not to choose a side in this silly argument but assuming they are both full size a Viola and a Violin can produce the exact same amount of pitches including harmonics and wolf tones.
So, that's not really the best "Pro-Viola" argument.

Guest [08/21/2010 16:53]

I play more pieces now where violas are now getting the melody. Sorry violins, your days of shining glory are almost gone

HighschoolViola [08/21/2010 16:51]

Violas are much better - they fiddle better, they have more of a mellow sounds that sounds full, and you don't have to worry about a sudden SCREECH coming your way. Way to go all viola players

Guest [08/20/2010 19:05]

Ima violin player and they r way better because the viola is depressing and the violin is more known and happier and more cheerful so VIOLINS RULE
